Sharanabasaveshwar car festival today | It marks the 193rd death anniversary of the saint
by Gulbarga on Mar 10, 2015 • 12:06 pm 5 CommentsPeople from across the country and abroad will converge at the Sharanabasaveshwar temple in Gulbarga on Tuesday to witness the car festival commemorating the 193rd death anniversary of Saint Sharanabasaveshwar and the initiation of the holy order (peetharohana) of the 8th Peetadhipati Sharanabasavappa Appa.
Saint Sharanabasaveshwar, a social reformer whose mortal remains are enshrined in the temple, was a symbol of sacrifice and an embodiment of service to the needy.
The selfless work of the saint in saving people from death due to starvation by providing them with food through gruel centres opened throughout the region during a famine is remembered even today.
