In order to attract more investments in the textile industry, the state government has decided to set up five new textile parks in different parts of the state.
A Rs 200 crore textile park has been approved by the Centre for being set up in Gulbarga at an estimated cost of Rs 200 crore.
Karntaka’s Textiles Minister Varthur Prakash, who announced the Centre’s approval of the proposal for setting up the textile park in Gulbarga on Thursday, said the Centre will be immediately releasing Rs 40 crore.
When the textiles park is completed and becomes fully operational, it is expected to provide employment to 20,000 people, the minister said pointing out that the Centre would give clearance for setting up another textiles park in Bellary shortly.
The State Government has proposed to set up parks in Belgaum, Chikkballapur, Tumkur, Chitradurga and Kolar, Prakash said.
Under the Central Scheme for Integrated Textile Park (SITP), the State has set up the textile park at Doddaballalpur by investing Rs. 92 crore and it has provided jobs to 2500 persons.
Karnataka was a partner state in the recent Technotex 2011, an international seminar on technical textiles held in Mumbai where Prakash invited industrialists to invest in the sector in the state and received good response. About Rs 500 crore investment flow is expected in the state
